Xubuntu does not shutdown on critical battery status

Bug Description

From the energy settings my notebook should shutdown if the battery status is critical.
But my battery drops to 0% and the notebook goes off due to missing electrical enegy.

I am using Xubuntu 8.04.1 on a Dell Inspiron Notebook.
