Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

Hi,
After upgrading Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04 LTS, What i observed is, firefox 3.0 consuming more CPU. It also slows down the system performance. Previously i was using firefox. which was good.

Build details are as follows:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008061015 Firefox/3.0

When scrolling the web page, it consume much more cpu. Here is the CPU consumptions when i did the top.

Pid UID PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
 6286 fazlur 20 0 362m 163m 24m R 76 8.1 607:17.69 firefox

This is not a one time consumption. Till the time the firefox is running, it consumes more CPU. I have installed some language related extensions like inidc input extension, Lipikar, Padma and other extensions like Server spy, show ip and ofcourse session manager.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm running 8.10 on an HP dv6809 laptop.
FF had been no [noticeable] problem thru 7.04 and 8.01 over past year.
But now it consumes heavy CPU on trivial activity! [GIFs?]

First noticed Firefox looping [one cpu] this week and, with no other activity, it is running heavily as I type this. This may have occurred after FF upgrade. Earlier today, I experienced 'crash' that was sent to Mozilla w/doc. Maybe that can help.
