Blank screen with compiz activated

Samsung Q1 (UMPC) with Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex 8.10 (upgrade from Ubuntu 8.04 with "update-manager -d")

Latest kernel, all updates at today.

Description:

After login screen there is a blank screen after gnome end to loading.

Temporary solution:
With key combination CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE i return to login window and select "Gnome Failsafe". After gnome end loading all function, but not compiz (and there is not possibility to disable).

I presume that the problem is Compiz, but i don't know how to disable at start.

I have the same problem, I installed intrepid alpha 1, but after update I ha ve a blank scrren after gnome end loading.

I have this problem on my ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 which is caused by compiz loading with gnome. I have been hitting ALT+F2 then typing in "metacity --replace", then hitting enter (all without seeing what's happening). That just runs that command in a terminal which switches from compiz to metacity.

I think we are waiting for some drivers to go through (and not just for ATI). Here is a forum post with a similar problem - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=845236&page=2 - I linked to page 2 which has some suggested explanations.

Thanks Imes... i try your "escamotage" (ALT+F2 then typing in "metacity --replace")... It's much more simple to apply that the solutions writed into the forum's post... ;)
