Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-firefox

When visiting http://www.pilkington.com/ with Firefox 3.0 on Hardy, I get the following error:

Content Encoding Error
The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form of compression.

[try again]

I tried this on my laptop as well, which has a fresh install of Hardy, and I don't get this error. But on my desktop, which was originally installed with 7.04 and has since been updated to Hardy, I consistently see this error.

Thank you for reporting this bug.
Please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. Thanks for the canned response :-) It *was* reproducible, and I would say was certainly a bug. Perhaps it was picked up somewhere in bugfixes for the Firefox 3.0.1 release, or perhaps Pilkington has changed their website so that the result is not visible any more. Anyway, we can leave this invalid as we can no longer test it.

fwiw, same problem here (ff 3.0.3+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1) in hardy with bloomberg.com. It's very strange, because I was viewing bloomberg and when it went through it's normal refresh, it came back with that error message.

So, I switched over to konqueror, which renders it fine.

It's obviously not reproducible, since it only happens intermittently.

But, this reply can at least let others know it's still happening on the current ff.

Using just the standard stuff:

flashplugin-nonfree 10.0.1.218+10.0.0.525ubuntu1~hardy1+really9.0.124.0ubuntu2
adblock-plus 0.7.5.4-0ubuntu1
useragentswitcher 0.6.11-0ubuntu1 (set at Default)
