Window chooser displays only one window after clicking desktop

Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

This is about the "Window chooser" panel applet, displaying one button with a popup menu of windows - not about the "Window list", the default in the bottom panel, which shows all windows as buttons on the panel.

This window chooser displays only one window if no window, but the desktop was the "active window" before clicking the Window chooser button.
Since this sounds too complicated, here in short steps:

Situation 1: (screenshot 1)

0) Open several windows.
1) Add the window chooser to the panel. One button appears.
2) Select any open window.
3) Click the newly added panel button.

Result: All windows are shown in the panel button's popup menu.

Situation 2: (screenshot 2)

0) Prepare like above
1) Click the desktop, so none of the open windows is focused.
2) Hit the window chooser panel button.

Expected: Same as above.
Actual result: Only the last selected window is shown in the popup window list.

(Appending one screenshot for each situation.)

thank you for your bug report. what ubuntu version do you use? do you display the desktop using the show desktop applet? do you get the same issue minimizing the dialogs?

Hi.
This is on hardy. (I was only trying the New Human theme from kwwii's ppa.)

I did not "display" the desktop but just *click* it where it shows through between the various open windows. In the screen shots you can see this free and clickable desktop space appear as a narrow stripe between the bottom of the firefox window and the top of the lower gnome-panel.
When clicking there, all windows naturally lose focus, but they stay open.
All I did between the two screen shots was clicking there and then opening the window list from the panel applet again.

Which dialogs do you mean?
I cannot check right now, but I didn't have the impression that the "Add to panel" dialog had any influence on the behavior of the window list panel applet.
