Registering a code import from a series is clunky.

Bug Description
There is some strange new VCS import UI which seems to have replaced the perfectly good old one. This one is much more tedious to use, and leaves a lot more work for the user to perform.
Previously, one would edit the series and select that it should be imported. That option no longer exists.
I eventually found a link at the bottom of a lot of text the series page, and just managed to evade the event horizon. That page of text must be about to undergo gravitational collapse and suck everything into it - it is larger than any I've seen elsewhere on LP.
e.g. See https:/
The import request page then further degrades my experience by not remembering which project I just navigated from! I finally am able to create the import.
But I then find that it isn't linked to the series. I have to link it manually. This is bad.

I'm sorry you are disappointed by these changes.
So the basic idea is to make vcs-import branches more like other branches in launchpad. This is why the details are now associated with a branch -- which is how Launchpad represents a bunch of source code after all -- not a series.
I cannot agree with you that the old ui was 'perfectly good'. I honestly believe that, if you don't know how the old system worked, it's actually easier to find out how to import a project now. But the UI is now all over on the code tab so if you were looking in old places, you wouldn't have found it.
There should be a 'import for this project' page. I'm not sure if there's a bug for this yet, it shouldn't be hard, but all I have is square tuits.
For the association of import branches with series, I'm not sure what to do about this. We need to make making the association much easier, but I'm not sure that doing it magically is a good idea.
