Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdepim

If I use a ppp connection, with pon, and knetworkmanager is running then kmail will send via smtp but will not collect mail (or even ask for a password) by pop3.
if I kill knm then pop3 works.
if I use ppp set up in 'interfaces' so that knm starts and stops it, rather than pon/poff, the problem is the same.
if I set my wired interface eth0 to auto and dhcp in 'interfaces' then knm always thinks things are on line and kmail works fine.
this seems to be the same problem as faced by firefox3
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox-3.0/+bug/191889
this problem exists in kubuntu 7.10 and 8.04
This issue seems to have been raised several times in relation to firefox3 and there seems to be disagreement as to whether it is a ff3 bug or knm bug so I was not sure if I should raise it here as well or not

Thank you for filing this bug. A lot has changed with network management and the advent of KDE4 since you reported this, and I haven't seen any bugs with applications thinking they are offline because of KNM in a long time, so could you check if this still effects you in Kubuntu 10.04?
