Bug Description

Binary package hint: virtualbox-ose

When creating a new disk in the Virtual Disk Manager, entering the size manually does not work properly if using only one numeral after the decimal place (i.e. 1.5 instead of 1.50). Obviously, this is not a high priority issue (with an extremely obvious workaround), but it might also be pretty easy to fix.

Repro steps:
1. Open VirtualBox OSE.
2. File > Virtual Disk Manager...
3. Actions > New...
4. Hit Next until you reach the Virtual Disk Location and Size prompt.
5. Enter "1.5 GB" in Image Size text field.
6. Hit Next. The summary will show "1.05" for the disk image size.

When entering "1.5 GB" in the field, it should either ask for the input to conform to "x.yy GB" or interpret the input as "1.50 GB" instead of "1.05 GB".

Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 1.5.6-dfsg-6ubuntu1
Running on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04.1

Thanks, that is all.

It technically is correct as it is.

It is not 1.5gb but 1.50, 1.51, so on an so forth.

How do you mean it is technically correct? Other tools would generally accept "1.5 GB", "1.5 G" or "1.5g" as valid input for file size, depending on syntax. Qemu-img, for example (being of similar function to this part of the VirtualBox control console), would accept 1.5G or 1.50G interchangeably as a valid file size for a new virtual disk.

Basically, my point boils down to this: 1.5 equals 1.50. 1.5 does not equal 1.05. So this is a bug.

Perhaps I'm filing the bug in the wrong place? Should this instead be filed with the VirtualBox project?

Another example would be the partition editor in the Ubuntu alternate CD. When prompted for new partition size, "1.5 GB" would be valid input, as well as the default if that is how much space is free.

As far as I understand, the main report is about that "1.5" by itself (without "G", "gb" or other suffixes should work).
With Virtualbox 1.6 however this appears to work: entering 1,5GB into the box for the virtual disk image (of dynamic type), results in the correct size for this image.
I'm marking it therefore "Fix released", since virtualbox-ose 1.6 is in Ubuntu Intrepid already.

If there are further issues and/or I did not understood it correctly, please re-open and forward the bug/wish to the upstream bugtracker http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker.

Thank you.

My original report was that "1.5 GB" did not work. Great to hear it is fixed in v1.6. Thanks.
