Bug Description

Strange behaviour - when the machine boots up I select version ubuntu 2.6.24-18
The usual default Ubuntu splash screen is replaced by Ubuntu studio splash screen. This is fine no problem.
However once the ubuntu studio splash screen disappears the screen is now garbelled (loads of this multi coloured lines).
The screen then goes blank then a cursor appears briefly (probably for 5 secs) before disappearing.
At the same time the screen now tries to load up but more screen craziness appears. Can not see anything on screen then a few secs later the screen goes blank and the machine does not respond.

Now the weird thing - after I reboot the machine if I select kernel version 2.6.24-16 evereything loads up correctly - however without the ubuntu studio splash screen.

I was talking about the graphics card. The kernel can load correctly if you load it in recovery mode, then select to fix xserver and then run.

I have find this bug to be reproduceable with intel graphics cards. Can you confirm this?

This is not a duplicate, how can it be? As yesterday (before I downloaded Ubuntu Studio) everything was working fine.

Does anyone care that my latest version of ubuntu 2.6.24-18 does NOT work AFTER installing ubuntu studio?

Please forgive my annoyance but this is a serious issue and needs resolving.

I'm really not bothered about selecting a previous kernel but consider the first time user scenario. This would put them right off.

2.6.24-19 is the latest kernel. Also, this issue is a dupe of another. Where the cause is something else.

Whatever. I give up - why do I bother. Thanks for the help (a hint of sarcasm). I'll continue to login to version 2.6.24-16.

WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH - ARRRGGGHHHHH

pulling my hair out NOW. Just removed from synaptic "ubuntu studio" re-booted into my latest kernel 2.6.24.19 however now under the applications tab (Main menu) I only get 2 options Internet + System. Under internet only 1 option exists and the same for System.

Why did I bother installing ubuntu studio. Does anyone have a solution?

Have you actually checked that all applications are removed and not only
 the gnome-menu file is damaged?
