Bug Description

ooffice2 -quickstart opens a window instead of starting a background process
which waits for activation.

Since using an existing instance reduces startup time from 4seconds to below a
second (on a _very_ fast (2.2GHz amd64, 512MB) machine with _hot_ caches!) this
prevents us from using OOo2 in production. The startup time is much worse with
cold caches.

I would happily modify ooqstart to use different arguments, but quickstarting or
backgrounding OOo2 is simply impossible on linux. If upstream had a
decent/working bug reporting system (or had explained well enough how to use it)
I would not bother you.

[My version ist 2.0.0-0ubuntu1, but the bug is present since the beginning]

I reported it upstream as http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=56902
since qa.openoffice.org works again.

Try "ooffice2 -nologo -nodefault" ... If you adapt ooqstart to ooffice2, I'd
love a pointer to your source packages.

-nodefault gave 12.8sec / 3.12sec (cold / hot cache) which is still worse than
1.1's -quickstart (<1sec) so the speedup is not yet big enough. Some people on
the OOo ML mentioned a 2.6.13 kernel as an additional speed gain.

Let's say -nodefault gives one third of the needed speedup. (12 vs 18 seconds)

It seems Ubuntu bug #12950 is related (but not duplicate) to this bug.
I think Ubuntu bug #12950 should depend on this bug, I'm right ?

It seems preloading works fine with OpenOffice.org 2.0.1RC from Ubuntu dapper
and ooqstart-gnome, recompiled from Debian Unstable, look at Ubuntu bug #12950
for more info and updated ooqstart-gnome package information (updated
ooqstart-gnome package could be found on ftp://ftp.akl.lt/Linux/Baltix
