Please remove any themes or addons or any extras and see if you can
still reproduce . If you can please attach the entire log when running
it. To do this start thunderbird from terminal by typing thunderbird.
When it closes that would be end of logs please attach them here. Also
please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs and adjust the
packages as needed by adding the repos on that page running apt-get
update than searching for thunderbird and towards the end of the list
you will see -dbgsym packages please install the ones taht obtain to
thunderbird and the rest of the libs for thunderbird.
Im working on getting a wiki to list all mozilla packages we maintain
and all debugging info on them including packages and such. I have run
into time issues so not sure when i will finish them.

Hi,
I've disabled the add-ons on thunderbird, and have been running(starting
from command line) for a while now without it closing. Last night the
webmail/hotmail stopped working - thunderbird said it could not connect
to local host - so maybe this is causing thunderbird to close, but the
other 5 non webmail email accounts I have in there are fine when
thunderbird stays open. I cannot install the the dbgsym as I there
isn't one for the version of thunderbird that I am using:

thunderbird-dbgsym:
  Depends: thunderbird (=2.0.0.12+nobinonly-0ubuntu1) but
2.0.0.14+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.1 is to be installed

so it won't install - is there a way to force it?

Cheers
Anna

It was one of your extensions causing the closing/crashing. If you add
them back one a time and test after enabling each one until you find
the one that is causing it. Please lets us know what extension it is
or theme.
as for the other problem you would need to open a new bug. as for why
the package wont install im not sure why

Thanks for your help,

I found this on the thunderbird-webmail forum

and downloaded and installed the newer hotmail extension from here:

hopefully this will stop it crashing
