After a installation using the intrepid alpha cd the quick search box is grayed out

Confirmed, using synaptic 0.62.1ubuntu3 on Intrepid 32 bit

Perhaps, synaptic should depend on apt-xapian-index (which depends on python-debian and python-xapian ).

Echoing what Jeremy Bicha said. I believe this dependency needs to be made by default. Quick search is very useful.
