Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubunto 8.04 (i386 alt distro) browses windows shares fine. Then after installing several updates no longer works.
Is there some config file that has updated in nautilus that I can revert or perhaps smb ?

I did not have Samba installed origionally then in an effort to get it going installed Samba.
No joy though.

ALL machines are XP SP3 and DHCP with fixed MAC - IP relationships.

I also have a prolem when I use smbmount to mount the sahres manually that the permission or access is wrong and it changes internmittently as some times I can save files and other times I cannot save files to the windows share.

Thanks
Garret

This is also happening to me just after the security upgrade of winbind package from '3.0.28a-1ubuntu4' to '3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4'. Is the only package that I have upgraded, before, samba was working perfect.

I have done the reinstallation of all nautilus packages and as i expected it didn't work. i insist that the problem is in the samba packages, very probably in the winbind package.

Confirmed that the problematic is winbind. Doing a simple "#sudo /etc/init.d/winbind stop" and voila shares started to work again, if winbind is started shares stop working. This bug is very important, a lot of people use samba. Don't know who was the developer that commited the new version of winbind, but watching other winbind bugs i think that he/she needs holidays.

As far as I can tell, this does not appear to be a -security or -updates regression. I have run the qa-regression-testing test-samba.py script with and without both 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 and 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4, and both 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4 and 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 fail the same tests with winbind installed. Both the security update packages and the unpatched hardy release packages fail the tests with:

While winbind is intended for use with a DC, it seems clear that its installation should not break an existing samba installation. Interestingly, removing winbind and installing likewise-open (which uses a patched winbind codebase) passes all tests.

Moving to samba as the original reporter said that reinstalling nautilus fixed it for him, but winbind is still not working correctly.

With version 4 and winbind started or stoped samba shares work, with 4.4 and winbind started don't work but with winbind stoped they work.

As it turns out, winbind 1.0-rc2-1 was added to -updates as a StableReleaseUpdate, and it added a dependency on winbind for ntlm_auth, which may be why it was pulled in inadvertently.

Please submit your smb.conf file, logs and exact steps on how to recreate the bug.

Steps to reproduce, with winbind started:
1. Browse the share.
2. Share can't be mounted error appear.

If winbind is stoped (# sudo /etc/init.d/winbind stop) the share works normally.
If winbind is started again, it's possible to access to shares that were accessed before winbind start but not to the ones that weren't accessed before the start.

I can confirm this bug. Stopping winbind, the samba shares can be accessed, with winbind running they cannot.

Has caused quite a lot of trouble here !!!!

Juan you can try reinstalling all the nautilus packages, you could have the same problem that OzyKiss. The problem with winbind is different and i edited this bug thinking that this my problem was the same.

If the reinstall of the nautilus packages don't work, please make another bug entry. Tell us here if you solve the problem or fill another bug.

howl the reinstallation of nautilus packages didn't work.

I also tried to install winbind and then browse the shares w/ daemon started and stoped without success.

The problems is still there. I'll make some search for a similiar bug and if not I'll try to make another one new.

Thanks any way
