Thunderbird does not have a -dbg package, so it's possible to file good bug reports for crashes

Bug Description

I'm trying to migrate from windows to ubuntu but I can't move my thunderbird e-mail profile over due to repeated crashes. This bug happens all the time in thunderbird but I'm unable to get a backtrace because building it from source is too hard and there is no -dbg package.

Please add a -dbg package for thunderbird, this would enable many other people to file bug reports and make thunderbird more stable on ubuntu.

Yep its like that for all mozilla apps we have it was intentional its in
the dbgsym repos. The -dbg packages are over 50mb that is one reason why
we let the dbgsym repos handle them.
Use this page as a template its for firefox but I will be making a tbird
and sunbird ect... one of these days. the main package you will need is
thunderbird-dbgsym plus any other ones that have to do with tbird. I
cant giv eyou a list at this time.
Please sign up for Mozilla mailing list (low trafic) from
https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-mozillateam
For the rest of the packages you will need. Once you have all packages
you need than follow the instructions on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs
on how to obtain a backtrace. I will leave this open for now.
