Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I have been downloading some cd images with firefox 3 under ubuntu hardy 64 bits. As download take hours, I left the computer alone with firefox running. After some time I couldn't determine, download stops (I realized that because network interface ligth does not blink), but status bar remains showing certain download speed (I guess the speed it was showing when it has stopped), like frozen. I don't have exact information, but it think it takes near 2 hours to freeze. If I pause the download and then resume, it becames receiving data again, download speed information starts moving again. I don't know if this behaviour is due to firefox or another ubuntu program like energy managment, and I really don't have tools (know how) to determine this. I have changed screensaver timer but it apears to have nothing to do with screensaver, bacause frozen becames after screensaver. I don't think it is because a bios configuration, because with firefox 2 I havn't have this problem and I have not touched bios.

When I'm downloading some large file as a http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=project-open&filename=project-open-VMware-3.3.2-1.zip&use_mirror=dfn is I can't download it at all. There is problem with Pausing and Continuing of download. I can Pause it and again click to continue but if connection is lost it tells me just that file can't be saved and I can't Continue any more. Should this be solved somehow? Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.

Well. I have all the stuff and firefox at the latest version (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; cs-CZ; rv:1.9.0.6) Gecko/2009020911 Ubuntu/8.10 (intrepid) Firefox/3.0.6).

Let's do following, please:
1. Start to download this: http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=project-open&filename=project-open-VMware-3.3.2-1.zip&use_mirror=dfn
2. Press "Pause downloading".
3. Press "Continue". [Everything is ok.]
4. But try to disconnect from network (unplug cable). Why can't download go to the "Pause" state, heh? ;)

That's all. I hope you understand.
Dunno if Gerardo Castro means the same issue as I'm.

I was thinking about it... It seems the proccess I'm requesting isn't bug. Maybe it is feature and I'll find my needs somewhere else. [close this]
