compiz fails after updates today

I will need guidance on what specific data I can supply to help. The udpates sent today, 6/26/2008: I perused them and there were various applications and components targeted. I do not remember which ones as I installed them all. If there is a way to identify the most recent updates, I'll supply you with that, just let me know how. After applying those updates and clicking on the restart icon, GDM failed to start with a "has only been up for 10 seconds" message (or something to that affect). I rebooted again and GDM came up ok this time. However, 3D effects were disabled. I re-enabled them and the cube effects no longer work. That is, pressing keys to show cube rotation (ctrl-alt-left-button) nothing happens. Also I can no longer switch from one desktop to another at all. However, the reflective desktop effect works (winkey-e) and that does let me change desktops.

I disabled 3D effects and 2D works fine.

What information can I supply that would be helpful?

To be clear, only the Compiz cube plugin broke after today's updates. Other 3D functions work find.

Update. The cube issue was my fault. I failed to re-enable the "cube rotate" plugin and only enabled "cube desktop." Once rotate was enabled, it worked.

So, the only issue is that after the updates were installed GDM crashed upon first restart (which was prompted by the updates) and 3D effects were shut off.
