Bug Description

I have 2 sound cards on a system I am using for home theater, ubuntu recogniszes
both and the sleection mechanism seems to work well. I switched from ESD to
ALSA since when playing movies with ESD the sound did not sync. The problem is
that with ALSA music when playing flacs, mp3s or oggs - stutters. There is gaps
in the music.

Thanks for your bug report. Which version of Ubuntu do you use? Which players
did you try? Are the symptoms always the same?

It seems fixed in Dapper,

In Breezy, it was all gstreamer applications that had problems with sound, I have a Maudio Audiophile 24/96 soundcard and a motherboard with SIS chipset sound builtin.

I found a hack in the forums (which worked) - to give a custom setup to gstreamer

open Multimedia System Selector, choose Custom as output and type below:

alsasink device=plug:dmix period-size=1024
