Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

It takes more than 10 min. to load gnome panel. and takes all my cpu
Nautilus works and I can start programs with no problems.

My system:

Dell D410 (laptop)
1Gb Ram
 >uname -a
Linux dnielben-laptop 2.6.24-19-386 #1 Wed Jun 18 14:09:56 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux

The problem start happening on Saturday 21 June 2008. As I update my system in a daily basis, I assume this problem was introduced in the last update, Friday 20 June 2008.

What I have tried until now with no success:

- Stop the trash applet
- stop gvfsd-trash
- Reset configuration settings of gnome
- Stop nautilus
- Stop nm-applet

I am attaching a backtrace of a session where the panel did not load at all. I did suspend the execution of the panel manually.

thank you for your bug report. do you have any bookmark to a non responding smb server? what updates did you install? that seems similar to what is described after the update on bug #209520

Changed in gnome-panel:
assignee: nobody → desktop-bugs
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → Incomplete

Yes, I had some smb server bookmarks in Nautilus. After removing them the panel started working normally.
