Bug Description

Binary package hint: virt-manager

According to the documentation, 'If you click your mouse anywhere in the graphical console window, the window will "grab" it and pop up a warning informing you it has done so. You can then use the mouse normally inside the console window. To "break out" of the window, press the key combination Ctrl+Alt.'

However, clicking in the console window is not the only way to have the mosue grabbed. If the console windows has focus but hasn't grabbed the mouse, pressing ctrl-alt, the "ungrab" key combination, will cause the console window to grab it. I often experience this annoying behavior when trying to switch virtual desktops using ctrl-alt and the arrow keys.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

This is by design. How do you propose this issue be fixed?

I propose that ctrl-alt shouldn't be used by virt-manager to grab the keyboard and mouse because it breaks the following:

Ctrl + Alt + Tab
Opens Panel Switcher dialog. Release to select a Panel

Ctrl + Alt + Escape
Cycle between Panels backwards. Release to select a Panel

Ctrl + Alt + Up/Down/Left/Right
Switch to Workspace up/down/left/right

Ctrl + Alt + D
Show the Desktop. Minimise all visible windows

I expect virt-manager to not break any of the panel, workspace, or window shortcuts listed at http://live.gnome.org/KeyboardShortcuts

This is coded as a feature in qemu-kvm. While I don't like the behavior myself, I suspect I need to mark this bug "opinion". This is not something I think we want to have different in Ubuntu from upstream qemu-kvm. However, if you want to pursue fixing this bug through upstream, that would be great.
