Bug Description

When opening local html files in GNOME, the default browser is not used. It uses firefox, rather than x-www-browser.

Upon further investigation I can't get gnome-open to open anything but firefox,
the settings in "Preferred Applications" appear to have no effect.

Thanks for your bug. Could you run "gconftool-2 -R
/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http" and copy that to a comment?

Results:

~ $ gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http
 needs_terminal = false
 command = epiphany %s
 enabled = true
~ $

I now notice that gnome-open opens epiphany when I pass it an "http://..." web
address, but not an html filename. If this is a feature that should be set
somewhere else I cannot find it, also I think if one sets a preferred web
browser it should handle URLs and filenames (or explicitly state where to set
the default html file handler.
So I went to an html file in nautilus selected properties and changed the
default app to epiphany and now all is well. I suppose this is a case of me
confusing a mime-type problem with a URI problem. Maybe a clarification under
perferred apps is needed, or centralized mime configuration system.
I still consider this abiguity a bug, but perhaps I am missing something and
this should be marked NOTABUG now?

I can reproduce this bug. When I open a local html file, by double clicking in
nautilus and selecting "display", it opens firefox, not epiphany, which is set
as my preferred browser. I have the same settings as the bug reported, by the
sound of it.
