Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

When upgrading from Firefox 2.0.0.14 to Firefox 3.0, the location (URL) bar and search bars are missing under Ubuntu Hardy Heron. Here are the options that I have tried so far:

Uninstalling 2.0 and installing 3.0
Adding a new user profile
Deleting all user profiles after uninstall and reinstalling
Uninstalling 3.0 and reinstalling 3.0

I did have a couple of beta versions of Firefox installed and I think the first one worked okay with the nightly tester tools extension installed and the one with Hardy Heron may or may not have worked but any attempt to install the current version robs me of my search and URL bar (control L only produces an open file).

This has left me completely baffled. Under the 2.0 version my extension: smart bookmarks bar will not hide folder names. I do not know if this has anything to do with my chrome or not.

Anything you could do to shed some light on this issue would be more than enough, as I really do not know what to do...

Sincerely,
Paul

Paul, can you send us a screenshot of the firefox window, to get an idea of your problem?
Have you tried right-clicking anywhere on the Navigation toolbar and selecting 'customize'?
I see that you have also installed #241090, do you generally have problems with firefox on your system?

Hi Dimitrios,

Attached screen shot: here I have duplicated what things look like with FF3 with my FF2 install (I had to remove 3). Note I have moved the navigation buttons but even with a no attachments install and no modifications the bars are gone with the first opening after install.

I have tried the customize tool and resetting toolbars. The search and URL bars do not show up under customize when they are missing.

I have not had this much of a problem installing or upgrading Firefox before. I consider myself somewhat of an experienced user of this software but that doesn't mean I couldn't have gone and did something stupid. A rouge file left behind from a previous install? I have also started Firefox in safe mode from the terminal.

Here is an update: I installed Firefox in my home folder instead of with synaptic package manager and everything seems to work fine. This increases my suspicions that there is a corrupt file somewhere in the Linux system.

Just wondering: have you tried removing the theme you're using? Maybe that's what messes it up...

On the initial install, Firefox starts with the default theme. Anyway, I have started this in safe mode through the terminal and still have the same result.

I can't believe that I am the only one having this problem.

Since my install of FF3 in my home folder, I have not been able to install any plug-ins. I may have to stay with FF2 for awhile, at least until all these bugs get worked out.

Let me know of anything else that may help,
Paul

Good news! I finally fixed this. I had to go into usr/ lib and delete all of the Firefox Files.
