Bug Description
Ubuntu 8.04; kernel: 2.6.24-19-generic; maxima: 5.13.0-3ubuntu1; wxmaxima: 0.7.1-1ubuntu3
After starting maxima in a terminal, typing just "1+1" and Enter, maxima hangs up. It only reacts on "Ctrl+C". Even "quit()" doesn't work.
I've tried this tips:
- compiling and testing the newest version 5.15.0, as described on https:/
- compiling with cmucl instead of gcl (https:/
but it is the same situation as before.
"maxima -s 4010" results in "jfa: starting server on port 4010 couldn't open socket:".
Certainly, wxmaxima, which I prefer, always sends "Not connected to maxima!".

I think you're confused by Maxima's syntax.
Maxima is waiting for you to type a ";", e.g.
(%i1) 1+1;
(%o1) 2
