Bug Description
Binary package hint: installation-
Hi,
I just replaced the mainboard of a computer with ubuntu hardy, put in a brandnew board with an AMD X2 CPU and 4 GByte RAM.
Unfortunately, the standard ubuntu kernel (*-generic) detects only 3 of the 4 GByte RAM.
I therefore tried to migrate to a 64 bit kernel. On my other system (Debian) this was easy: I just installed the *-amd64 kernel and a new libc,
and voila, 4G RAM available.
Under ubuntu, in contrast, the 64 bit kernel seems to be available in the amd64 distribution only, and not accessible from x plain
x86 installation.
Therefore, the docu should tell how to cross-upgrade a system from x86 to amd64 without a complete re-installation. Would be a hell of work to reinstall all those things running on that system.
regards
