lost bookmarks and saved logons

Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

I am aware of the problem from my experience with the beta version. I thought this would have been fixed with the new version. Without any crashes and after closing properly, when I turned on my computer this morning Firefox hads no memory of who I am. No bookmarks and no saved passwords etc.

Loss of profile when all I have done is stop, turn off the machine and then restart is NOT acceptable and IS a bug

do you have enough space in your /home partition? maybe there is a
permission problem?

Do you shut down firefox before logging out and powering down the
machine?

How much space do I need - and how would I know? Is there a program for
cleaning out unneeded files? I know for Windows there are many given
the propensity of that systems to fill up drives. I did not know that
was a Linux issue.

Yes I always close all running programs before shutting down.

But any program should fail gracefully. If the power goes out and I have
no back up does that mean I will lose my profile again? This does seem
to be an issue with Mozilla as it has affected Thunderbird mail in both
operating systems

I am also having a similar problem - but already saved bookmarks remain and it seems that only new bookmarks are lost when firefox is restarted. I cannot confirm this but I think that when I was using one of the RCs then sometimes the described problem would not happen, but most of the time it would.

What further information is needed for this not to be marked as incomplete?

Thanks

In reply to Alexander's questions. I have between about 700mb free space on my home partition so that should not be an issue. I have also ensured (well as far as I can see... I simply used the nautilus permissions tab and applied to all sub folders/files) that my Firefox profile's folder is writeable by my user and I am closing Firefox properly - but the problem still persists.

I did find http://support.mozilla.com/sk/kb/Bookmarks+not+saved#Changes_are_lost_whenever_you_restart_Firefox which may help - but as I mentioned I have already tried to check file permissions.

Can you try this in Ubuntu 8.10 and tell us if the problem still occurs?

I am no longer having the problem under 8.10 - creating a new profile in 8.04 seemed to solve it then.
