ant get more than 600x400 resolution. with ubunto 8.04 it sees nvidia accelerated graphic driver. but no higher resolution

I'm a low tech knowing guy , i want to install ubuntu Does my computer support it ?

Processor : AMD athon 64 x2 dual core 4400+ 2.30 GHz
RAM : 2.00 GB
System Type : 32 bit computer
current OS : windows vista home premium SP1

cant get any higher resolution than 600x400 after upgrade. its sees nvidia accelerated graphics card. installed and uninstalled and no change.
