Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Kubuntu Hardy
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008060309 Firefox/3.0

It's not possible to switch language when typing something to Firefox address bar and list of suggestions is appeared.

How to reproduce:
0. Two or more keyboard layouts must be installed in your KDE system.
1. Start typing of address in Firefox address bar. For example, start to use quick searches, type "google ".
2. List of suggestions must appear below the address bar. (If not so you should create some history of similar addresses.)
3. Try to switch language to search something Russian in Google, for example.
Actual result:
It's not possible to switch language until you close suggestions list by clicking to address bar.
Expected result:
It should be possible to always switch language.

Also, some other shortcuts can't be used in this situation, for example, alt-tab, alt-f4 and so on.

This bug is much more general than firefox. I suspect it has nothing to do with firefox.

Here, after upgrading to Ibex (RC) via the net, the switch to KDE 4 breaks the keyboard layout switcher completely.

The country-flags in the panel display but switching among languages/countries in the "KDE keyboard layout switcher" widget in the panel doesn't actually switch the input language.

Yes. The bug is more general. I can't say anything about KDE 4. But with KDE 3.5 the keyboard layout is not switched when any popup window appears.

Here the concrete example:
0. Start Run Command from the K menu.
1. Start typing any command name.
2. The popup with previously entered commands appear.
Actual result:
Until you close the popup (by pressing Esc, for example) it's not possible to switch the keyboard layout.

I wrote the bug for Firefox because firstly I got the bug with it's "smart suggesting" address bar.

And abont KDE 4:
>The country-flags in the panel display but switching among languages/countries in the "KDE keyboard layout switcher" widget in the panel doesn't actually switch the input language.
It looks like the keyboard shortcut to switch the layout is not set.

Happy Birthday bug 457513! Oops I've missed it - it was 2 months back.
Same story here (Windows XP SP3 EN, Firefox 3.5.5, switching between EN/RU)
I'd be glad to help fix it though I'm afraid a prerequsite for it is configuring build environment, which is usually non-trivial.
Anyone interested in guiding inexperienced programmer with that?

This bug is very old. Guess it is time to update.

I no longer see any problem as I used to.

I'm now on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) and I can switch languages without problems, both in firefox and elsewhere.

Hope this helps.
