Ahh, the video doesn't show in the screenshot, but it's only in the bottom corner.

thank you for your bug report, do you use the desktop effects option?

Yeah I use Compiz and have messed with the Video Playback feature, including the Yv12 colourspace. I don't know if this is just down to me messing with things. Is it worth me using metacity to see it still does it?

Cheers!

UPDATE: I have enabled metacity and the video works fine, thus suggesting a fault with Compiz? This was with NO desktop effects, when I re enabled desktop effect from the 'Appearance>Visual Effects>Extra effects, i get the same symptoms. Does this use Compiz as the engine???

I'm no expert, that's what you genius' are for. Should I file a bug on compiz/metacity rather than Totem? Just to note this does not happen when playing flash in Firefox, so it's not every video source.

Thanks, hope this is helpful information.

reassigning to compiz, that's a known issue there

I think I can add to this bug instead of reporting a new one. I'm having Sam's problem and more:

Whenever a window or menu overlaps the window where a video is being displayed, I can see a blue halo around the window or dialog box instead of the shadow created by the window decorator, either Compiz or Metacity.

This happens with any video player. I have tried VLC, Totem and Realplayer. In Totem the halo is black, not blue.

When I capture the screen while a video is playing, I get no still image of the video in the screenshot, but a transparent area that turns blue when I move it outside the area of the video that's being played.

I switched to a KDE session (without Compiz installed) and had the same problem.

I remember having this problem in Dapper Drake, when I didn't even have Compiz installed, but I didn't have this problem in Gutsy.

I ran Gutsy from a Live CD, and everything worked well. No problem with screenshots there.

My PC is a Compaq Presario c701la, Intel Celeron processor,

I'm enclosing pictures in a zip file:
Pic 01: Blue halo around menu
Pic 02: Compiz fire particles turn into blue spots on the video area
Pic 03: Black halo around menus with Totem
Pic 04: Transparent square instead of video still in screenshot
Pic 05: Transparent square turns blue
Pic 06: No problem with screenshots in Gutsy

This is incredibly old and most likely a dupe of an ancient bug dealing with nvidia's proprietary drivers. The issue has since been fixed.

If a similar error is existant in newer iterations of Compiz, please file a new report.
