Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

This has happened very frequently, I will be browsing a website and while a page is loading the firefox process will just close for no apparent reason, sometimes this will happen many times on some myspace profile pages.

I have a slight feeling that this may be caused by Java or Flash since it happens (according to my observation) only on pages that contain these technologies.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please try to obtain a backtrace by following the instructions on [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MozillaTeam/Bugs, or upload (as an attachment) the crash report from /var/crash/.

Also, please answer these questions:
Is this crash reproducible? If so, which are the steps that lead to it?
Which flash package do you have installed?
Which Java package do you have installed?
Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?

This will greatly aid us in tracking down your problem.

try to disable your extensions in tools -> addons. if that doesnt
help, try to uninstall your flash player. if that helps, consider a
free alternative for the meantime (mozilla-plugin-gnash or
swfdec-mozilla)

Same here - problem cannot be reproduced. This has only started happening since v3 was installed through the auto updated in 8.04.

When a website is visited, the browser just quits. No notices, no warnings. When starting it back up again, you get the "Firefox closed unexpectedly - restore tabs" options though.

It then restores the page you initially had open before clicking the link. If you click the link again, it works fine.

AFAICT - this only happens on link clicks - not with typing addresses into the address bar.

I have noting in /var/crash , and I'll install the firefox crash thingie as suggested by them, see if I can get any more info.

I'm going to have a guess at a flash related problem. I tried installing the Adobe verison of Flash direct from thier website to see if that recitified any problems, but it just dies again.

I'll look into installing another flash option - but this may not be suitable for all users.

Looks like the flash player is playing up.. I got a SIGSEGV, then that error.

I'll uninstall the non-free version, and play around with one of the other options..

One of the rotating banner ads on http://fark.com or http://img.4chan.org/b/ causes it, but I'm not sure which one. Just reloading a few times causes the problem

Which flash package do you have installed?
I have tried with both the latest 9.x and 10.x versions both from the adobe website, hardy repositories and from a PPA from someone who was
Which Java package do you have installed?
$ dpkg --list | grep jre
ii sun-java6-jre 6-06-0ubuntu1

(for the record, I don't browse enough sites with java to notice)

Which Firefox extensions do you have installed?
I can reproduce with a clean profile, but on the profile I use, I have:
sage
twitterfox
ubuntu firefox modifications
web developer
4chan
firebug
flashblock
live http headers
