Bug Description

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

I've tried to open a large .pdf file (14 Mb, 51 pages) with several images and the program crashes. Also I don't know how to edit a pdf file, since document viewer does not allow me to copy images, only inkscape opens pdf single pages (and inkscape also is the default program to open .pdf)

Why did you file this bug against OpenOffice.org, as far as I can tell it can not open PDF files? What program did you intend to file this bug against?

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

It seemed that since I installed inkscape, it became the default program. Since I cannot copy things from a PDF with Document Viewer I've tried to open it with Text Editor, but it cannot open them. I guess I will have to try another PDF reader that allow me to copy things.
Thanks

In office, there are choices of

calandar
presentation
database
spread sheet
word processor

There is no clearly marked application to open PDF files, which most consider a document.
the default is "open office"

this crashes when attempting to open a PDF file

In my opinion ( Your mileage may vary )
An application for opening PDF files should be clearly marked in Ubuntu, else Open office should show an error message and make a suggestion as to what document processor / program the user should use.

Thanks

Ben

Ben,

Have you tried... just double clicking on the pdf? It should automatically open in 'Document Viewer' which is the program evince and is not in the Applications menu. I guess it was disabled from showing in the menu because someone decided it didn't actually need to be in there since it just works when double clicking on PDFs.

Hi,

I know a wordprocessor does not open PDF.
The thing was that I had to extract images and text from a PDF in order to generate a new word.
Evince did not work fine at this point, so I installed KPDF which works better to me.
