Bug Description

I am in the process of finishing Ubuntu 8.04 on a HP Compaq SR1000 with no success. Have tried ALL workarounds with NO SUCCESS, No sync error, memory dump error during install, cannot find available hdd locations. I have looked through ALL EeePC ASUS documentation fully. I am new at installing this version of Ubuntu though have been successful in 7.x fully with great control and many TWEAKS and workarounds. I may have to go with a custom PC or at just go with a MAC install. I will get the report to you with known errors ASAP. I have even tried to just run it off of the cd LIVE with no success as well.

LINUX KNOWLEDGE: NOVICE/Newbie to OEM machines
Experience: Minimal due to no success in getting this installed on OEM Machine

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Hi, thank you for reporting this problem to help make ubuntu better.
On the roof of the compaq desktop near the front panel there is usually a sticker that will give the exact model number, if it is not there it will be on the back of the case. Could you please post that number here, it will say something like SR1026.uk or so.

Thanks.

Thanks for replying. I am anxious to see the outcome. I am posting info from Belarc. Its so much easier then searching for it all. I know this will help out. Talk soon. I reverted back to the original BIOS due to the OEM settings that have been embedded. If there is a BIOS that you can offer to me that will override it all or help out with this further, I will try my best to offer more help with what knowledge I have. I use a DELL Inspiron 1300 with Knoppix Live CD which canno boot as well due to some shared memory settings or so. I just have to live with DSL for the meantime.

Very sorry for not responding. I have been dealing with some compatability problems in my marriage though they will smooth out I suppose. As for any success, minimal. I have since modded the shared memory problem with a BIOS my friend created which almost disabled it. I am not giving up. As for Ubuntu 8.10 or Eee PC Linux that has been installed on the DELL Eee pc, it worked for my computer. I now have Win 7(buggy and slow), Win XP Pro and Linux on here FINALLY. Well as for the setup itself, I am running smoothly. Work is still a chore. Setup my Linksys router with DD-WRT was great. Now I am finally going to open up a WIFI Cafe near the UOW and hope to expand northern in ontario, canada. Thanks to the entire linux community, open source s/w and its right to free the world from the corporate stank that is available to keep us on a train to doom. Now we just have to watch out that our technology does not pop our heads off with all the signals floating around.
