pdf import back to front

Created simple PDF file using PDFlib, both versions 6 or 7, and on importing the PDFs in Inkscape the text is reversed oddly by letter. Tried an invoice and same result. Tried opening with File -> Open, File -> Import and by dragging the file directly into the Inkscape window. Same result.

I thought it might be the way in which PDFlib drew the PDF with its coordinates system - there is a 'topdown' parameter which affects where (0, 0) starts on the 'drawing grid'. I set this to both disabled and enabled; similar but not identical results. When disabled, normal text boxes appear fine but larger text or objects like it are reversed in the same manner.

I just made report Bug #840625 against Ubuntu, listing two import problems, one of which may or may not be this one. The other problem was text importing as graphics
