Bug Description

Binary package hint: freepops

New modules, downloaded via the freepops-updater are written for freepops 2.7 and FreePOPs 2.6 cannot be updated anymore.
When trying to update the modules you get the following error message:

psock: FreePOPs is too old, needs version 0.2.7
popforward: FreePOPs is too old, needs version 0.2.7

Furthermore, you may remove the package freepops-updater-fltk, as freepops 2.7 includes now a new updater frontend based on zenity.

Fltk frontend was mainly intended for Mac OS and Windows systems, and makes no much sense anymore on UNIX.

Kind of difficult to update to something which is not yet released. 2.7 is still in development and an rc1 has been uploaded to experimental. We will sync to this when available in unstable.

Right. I didn't see that it is rc1.

With regard to freepops-updater-fltk, will you agree to remove it from the tree?
It also requires to install an extra library, that most of times is used only by this software.
And the decelopers created this package for Mac and windows. Now on Unix become useless.

I don't see any reason to remove freepops-updater-fltk, it has been included for user who don't have a GTK+ based desktop environment.
For those who have, there is now freepops-updater-gnome.
Neither of the two is a depends/recommends of freepops so you don't have to worry about extra libraries, just don't install the one you don't want/need.

Honestly, until now it has been included just because it was the only alternative GUI to dialog interface :)

Anyway, you're right: those people not having GTK+ may find more convenient to use the fltk interface.
