update manager not working

Bug Description

i am a learner, only today i installed my ubuntu, while i want to update, the following message appears, E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

when i pasted this in terminal, it asks for superuser permission, which i do not know, either superuser name or the way to enter the same. Please help. Thanking you.

You should be using sudo with that command in order to get superuser privileges. Please run:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
This isn't a bug, it's just how the package management system works when it is interrupted. I will mark this bug as invalid, but feel free to post back any results or feedback.
