Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

After resume from Hibernation I see for some 10 seconds white screen after resume is completed I can normally work in X11 but if I switch to the console with the ctrl + alt + F1 etc. I only see white screen and can't use the console, I can switch back to X11 with ctrl + alt + F7 and work further without problem. Sometimes the screen after resume from Hibernation is blue in this case I can switch to console but the background of the console window is blue and characters are yellow. This problem doesn't happen after resume from suspend to ram.

As a attachment I supply the Xorg.0.log after I resumed from Hibernation with the result in blue console window.

Could you please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log after hibernate and changing to console? Maybe some additional information are logged about your problem.

For Hardy there is an unofficial package http://people.ubuntu.com/~bryce/Testing/intel/hardy-i386/xserver-xorg-video-intel_2.3.1-1ubuntu1~bwh3_i386.deb which you could also test.
If you want to try the new -intel driver for Hardy you have to remove the old i810 driver and then install the new one.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-i810 xserver-xorg-video-all

If you want to reset everything do the follow commands.
sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all

Hi,
Thank you for your replay!
I have now tried this unofficial package and now I have attached /var/log/Xorg.0.log after switching to console. But now I have tried 5 Hibernations and 5 Suspends and after 3 Hibernations console now is not more whited out but it is now blue background with orange characters and it is missaligned.
This unofficial driver has solved for me the Bug #229128.

Thanks for testing. I guess it is the best to report it upstream. Please also attach the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf, the output of >>dmesg<< and >>lspci -vvnn<<. If you have a digital camera/mobile phone a photo of your colored console would be great too.

Hi there,

I installed the unofficial package and it made no noticeable difference for me (although I never had the discoloured tty consoles, only the all-white screen). I've attached my Xorg.0.log. Thanks in advance!

Sorry but I have no time right now to investigate this issue further. For me with unofficial driver I get most of the time coloured and missaligned console window(rolled some pixels to the right so that first n columns of pixels from the right side appear on the left side) but I can use console. Some times I also get only the all-white screen but with the unofficial driver it happens only very seldom.

Hi there,

This problem also affects my HP 6510b laptop with i965GM.
After resume from hibernation (I use `$ sudo hibernate` command) there is unusable white/gray screen in tty console (I can't see any text or type anything, but I can leave back to GUI by typing CTRL+ALT+F7). Sometimes, as SkullBurner said before, there is orange text on blue background in tty console (everything but colors works correctly).
It's really strange that this bug behavior appeared after absolutely fresh installation of Hardy. A few weeks before I used to have Gutsy upgraded to Hardy (since April) and there was no such problem.
I've attached files you wrote about - the output of `dmesg`, `lspci -vvnn` commands and finally /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files.
I also took two photos of tty console screen on my laptop when the second behavior happened (be sure all the text is really yellow/orange).

We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires
that you first test it against their newer driver code.

To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built
packages for the driver and its new dependencies.

So you have a couple options:

 1. Download and test .debs for intrepid, from:
     https://edge.launchpad.net/~intel-gfx-testing/+archive

 -or-

 2. Download and test the Jaunty alpha-2 (or newer) Live CD,
(which includes a beta of the new xserver 1.6 as well).
     See http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/9.04/ for ISOs

Thanks ahead of time! You can simply reply to this email to report your
findings.

P.S., if you wish to forward your bug upstream yourself, please follow
these directions to do so:

We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we may be able to pass upstream for help.
