pcscd fails to start with /etc/init.d/pcscd start

When I tried to start pcscd via /etc/init.d/pcscd I get an error:
svenar@control:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/pcscd start

If I remove the "syslog" option from the /etc/init.d/pcscd script it works fine.
What do you call "the "syslog" option from the /etc/init.d/pcscd script"?
I can't reproduce the bug.
