Bug Description

Currently Totem (default audio and video player in Ubuntu) is not excluded by Maximus key /apps/maximus/exclude_class
This means that any video you are going to play will be scaled to match the entire screen area, even you are watching, for example, a small 300x200 video.

I suggest to:
  A. add by now Totem to the list of window classes excluded by Maximus;
      if you want to see a video fullscreen, use the fullscreen feature (F11)
  B. open a bug against Totem (upstream) asking for an option to play the video
      at actual size,

Can you provide a screenshot of the problem? I tried with the Experience Ubuntu.ogg example video and it seems to be fine?

I believe the plan with maximus (if it hasn't happened yet) is to allow the user to unmaximize a window as well. Unfortunately I don't have any data on the predominant resolution for a video, but I would think that most videos would be fine in full screen. I'll see if I can find a video of the resolution you mention.

"/usr/share/example-content/Experience Ubuntu.ogg" is a 360x288 ogg video. Normally I feel the poor quality is embarrassing, but here it's a bit handy.

Luca, do you feel this file demonstrates the bug adaquately?

i confirm that watching a LowRes video within Totem maximized (for exemple through YouTube browser) is not nice at all.
i had to play with the right pane and extend it to reduce the main window size.
there should definitely be an option to play the video at 1:1 or 2:1 size without considering if Totem window is maximised or not

Newest Maximus also prevents Totem from going to full screen.

I'm still not sure about excluding Totem from the maximize list. I guess it comes down to how many very low-res videos you play compared to medium/high-res. On the netbooks which UNR targets, it helps to have totem start maximised for the majority of videos. If this isn't your preferred behaviour, it's easy to add a rule to exclude it.

I'm not closing this as I'd like to get some more opinions...if you've been using unr/maximus with totem, has the maximised totem still bothered you after a couple of weeks use?

currently Totem is not maximized. Seems weird, but I'm ok with it as people could always maximize it when they want to.
