Bug Description

Kubuntu x64 8.04

I'd got the following issue:
For whatever reason ATI driver has failed to load after update.
I did not noticed this fact in timely manner and then switched graphic effects ON while actually ONLY having software GL renderer.
Actually this lead to immediate white screen. There is nothing visible on screen.Just white rectangle, 1280x1024 sized.
So, it is more than just hard to de-activate compiz effects now.

Suggested solution:
There should be some easy way to disable effects but load remaining desktop as usually so user can easily de-configure effects.
Also, it is a good idea if effects settings app after applying new effects setting will show dialog with back-counting timer asking if user can see things properly.Since this is surely not first failure of setting up effects I ever seen.

Do you mean compiz, or kwin's compositing features? Are you on KDE 3 or KDE 4?

I doubt this will ever be implemented in this application, now that KDE4 has desktop effects of its own apart from KDE. (Which even has this feature.)
