edit: problem happens when i right-click the .m3u and choose open with rhythmbox music player. when i double-click the file directly the order is correct but rhythmbox plays in random order even though random playmode is disabled.

Confirming.

Opening an .m3u file from Nautilus results in the tracks being listed in totally random order in Rhythmbox. Opening the same .m3u file in Totem does not suffer this problem. The playlist's track order is correctly maintained.

However, opening the same .m3u file in Rhythmbox by using Music > Playlist > Load from file (rather than right-clicking the .m3u file in Nautilus) DOES load the playlist contents in the correct order.

Reopening, more people where this is happening (including me). Opening the m3u file via Music > Playlist > Load from file displays it in the right order; right clicking then Open with -> Rhythmbox or dragging it into Rhythmbox would earlier load the file in the wrong order.
I have now removed the list, and when right clicking it then Open with Rhythmbox, does not load the file at all; instead it starts playing at the first song which has nothing to do with that playlist. When dragging it onto the Rhythmbox Playlist list, it is added as a new playlist with name "-". But that's probably a different bug (rhythmbox, by the way, does not give any output when that happens).

I can upload an .m3u file if needed, but can't provide the mp3 files which come with it. The order in which Rhythmbox loads the files is not the order in the .m3u file (which is correct and the same as the track number order), and it's also not alphabetically, it seems random. Clicking on the "track number" column label doesn't seem to do anything.

If anything else is needed, let me know.

Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May you please test with that version and comment back if you're still having or not the issue? Please have a look at http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that version. Thanks in advance.
