Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 8.04
x86_64
Gnome 2.22.2
Whenever I plug my iPod to my box, before I do a "coldstart" it, I will suffer from an empty Desktop (no icons, folders, mounted hds visible).
On xserver restart (<ALT><STRG><BACKSPACE>) everything returns to normal.

Thanks for your report, what do you mean with a coldstart? a normal startup? May you please attach your ~/.xsession-errors file after you get the issue? thanks.

A "coldstart" means that it did not have any previous power supply (PC is cold).
Will attach x-session errors log later. Is there anything else I can do?

It happens more often, if I leave my iPod plugged and shutdown ubuntu. remove any power supply. And do a coldstart..

.xsession-errors is attached

How can I help to speed up this bugfix? (Don#t tell me to fix it myself, I am not skilled enough to fix it myself, yet)

you can try to send the bug directly to bugzilla.gnome.org too but the issue is that thousand of bugs are open and only limited ressources to work on those

is nautilus working when you get the issue?

Everything works fine, except the desktop-background and its icons,.. and the panel's alpha blending is messed up (only grey, no transparency)

I have sometime this problem @ cold startup, but without any iPod plugged.
When I have no icon, no background, etc... at startup, I kill the process launched with "nautilus --no-default-window --sm-client-id default2" command line, and then it restarts OK with the following command "nautilus --sm-client-id 117f000101000121562986900000064200001 --screen 0".
