Bug Description

Step 1. Installed 8.04 with no issues.

Step 2. Updated to official latest taking all Security and all the available Distribution updates.

             Rebooted as prompted.

Issue 1. Upon logging back in I noticed the Deleted Items Applet had disappear or so I thought.

Step 3. Tried re-adding applet, but saw nothing.

             Discovered the applet is there but no image. Right clicking about and you can find it.

Step 4. Created a file and then deleted it and then decided to go to alternate plan and empty via Nautilus.

Issue 2. The 'Empty Deleted Items' in the Nautilus file menu is grayed out and not active to empty the bin.

Step 4. Right clicked about and opened bin.

             The file deleted was present and in the file menu the option 'Empty Deleted Items' was active and works.

Updating to all current proposed packages does not fix this issue and is still present.

This is a major functionality bug.

Also check out /home/username/.gconf/apps/panel/applets

There seems to be a mass creation of 'applet_xx' (xx is numerical value).

Just performed a second fresh install on same machine and results are as follows.

* Updating to all the Security and Distribution updates and rebooting did not result in the Deleted Items Applets icon disappearing.
* Adding another Deleted Items Applet worked fine.
* Step 4 and issue 2 remains.
* The deleted file did not show in the top of the bin. Opening the bin showed the deleted file and could be deleted via the Nautilus file menu.
   NB. The file could not be deleted using the button inside the bin view pane. Dialog appeared but file did not disappear.
* Rebooted.
* Files now created and deleted appear in top of bin.
   NB. The file could now be deleted using the button inside the bin view pane. Dialog appeared, worked and file disappears.
* Right clicking on Deleted Items Applet reveals that 'Empty the Deleted Items Folder' option is always active even if bin is empty.

Performing 3rd fresh install over next few hours.

There is something really funky going on here. :-/

Performed third install and results were same as second install initially.

Went to sleep and left laptop on. Now deleting files is OK and bin icon shows correct visual state when having contents or empty.

* Right clicking on Deleted Items Applet reveals that 'Empty the Deleted Items Folder' option is always active even if bin is empty. This should not be so if bin is empty.
