Bug Description

Hello.

I have Intel 20'inch iMac with build-in iSight webcam, running Ubuntu 8.04 with all updates and default boot (kernel) params.

Webcam work fine only firts minute, and then the picture freezes. If i use cheese at this moment, it`is fail with this message:
*** glibc detected *** cheese: munmap_chunk(): invalid pointer: 0x08099af8 ***
In Skype i can turn video off and on. And it`s work next minute.
Camorama app can`t found video device, so not work at all.
In MacOSX alls work fine, but I want use Ubuntu as primary OS :)

In dmesg output at fail moment I see:
[ 108.885868] uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB (-45).
[ 108.885980] uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB (-45).
[ 108.886079] uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB (-45).
[ 108.886135] uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB (-45).

lsusb otput for my iSight:
Bus 007 Device 003: ID 05ac:8502 Apple Computer, Inc.

While webcam work I see in dmesg output also 4 or more messages like "uvcvideo: unknown event type N" (N - various numbers) at one second.

In google I found another report about this bug, but with OmniVision webcam on Dell laptop running Ubuntu 7.10 x86_64 at address http://osdir.com/ml/linux.drivers.uvc.devel/2007-12/msg00073.html

Thanks,
Zawullon <email address hidden>

P.S. sorry for my english

I have the same issue with ubuntu 8.04

I have acer aspire 5720's Crystal Eye.

I noticed that if I run xawtv, it doesn't freeze like that with kernel messages
tvtime btw doesn't work with uvc driver at all, it just complains about
"too short video frames"

Note: I have x86 version of Ubuntu installed (not x86_64).

In x86_64 version of Ubuntu iSight work fine. It`s very strange :)
I think that processor on iMac is 32-bit really, but can understand and execute 64-bit commands. Is it right?
If it is, x86 version must work better than x86_64. In any case uvc driver must work in any version of Ubuntu, not in 64-bit only.

Good news

I have installed latest version of the driver from

svn checkout svn://svn.berlios.de/linux-uvc/linux-uvc

and latest linus -git kernel, and it works perfectly now

Can you check kernel 2.6.27?

Or install interpid

Because I am almost sure that this is fixed, I don't see this message any more.

this bug was marked as invalid because lack of response from the reporter. Anyway this is most probably solved in Intrepid by latest updates.

Please let us know if this is not the case reopening this Bug (marking as new again)

Thanks a lot for your report,

Sorry for no response.

At this moment:
iSight work fine in Feisty (from ~08-2008 updates) and Intrepid (out of box).
But lines "uvcvideo: Failed to resubmit video URB" already present in log messages.

Big thanks and very sorry again for no response and my english...
