Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdebase-workspace

Running Kubuntu Hardy.

Just upgraded to the new KDE 4.1 beta 1 packages and now I can't get a KDE 4.x desktop as plasma crashes right after login. I can log in but there's no kickoff, applets, etc, just a black screen with a mouse cursor. Can only launch apps with krunner (alt-F2).

Here's the back trace....

Hope this helps. Will definitely need to resolve before these much anticipated packages are announced to Kubuntu users.

Removing the existing ~/.kde4/share/config/plasma-appletsrc file seems to eliminate the problem.

A new file will be created and KDE 4.1 beta 1 will start properly.

Ah, right. I remember this bug... Systrays in smaller-than-normal panels would cause plasma to crash.
This was fixed in Beta 2, by the way.

I have the same type of bug, but in Kubuntu current.
changed some plasma settings, did update as the notifier asked it, then did reload as notifier told me to do, now after login no plasma, only a black screen and backtrace as in attachment

A friend of mine is having the same problem in Kubuntu 8.10. Once she logs in, plasma crashes and leaves her with a black screen. Unfortunately I don't have more details.
