Bug Description
Binary package hint: firefox-3.0
Linux runs great.
I like this OS a lot.
The problem is that after running Ubuntu 8.06 for a few days the package handler quits working.
I get this message...
"E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report."
I don't know what this is all about, i cannot install any further software now.
It says to please report, so here is your report.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Dave

Hi Dave
That means there's a problem with the backend system that configures packages on your system. Specifically, it's been stopped half-way through doing something. What you'll need to do is to bring up a terminal (GNOME terminal in GNOME, or Konsole in KDE), and issue the command it gives you: "dpkg --configure -a" (without the quotation marks). That should sort it out.
This might be a wishlist request--when the package manager says that, maybe it should offer a button to click to do so, or even maybe just do it by itself. Are you using synaptic as your package manager?
