Bug Description

vym saves .zip files that contains a xml file. For me the file gets corrupt when i started using the notes in vym. For en example i got this.

Fatal parsing error: error occurred while parsing content in line 9, column 3
FIle is: /tmp/vym-bSuiZn/Sjukdomar.xml
<!<ERROR>DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN
"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/strict.dtd">

I got that i i open the .xml file and delete this line the vym document will load and work. This is really annoying and it happens all the time when i use notes

I have attached the vym file so you can have a look att it

I confirm, I get exactly the same behavior.
Each time I add a note and save, it adds this line in the XML file.

Removing the line makes the document readable.

same for me all the maps i edit make the same crash.

I found a solution :
Before opening a map,
- unzip the .vym file,
- open the xml file inside and remove the ' DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0//EN
"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/strict.dtd">' line
- save, rezip

and then I can open the map in vym.

This bug was already addressed by the vym developers. It is fixed in 1.12.0 which I compiled created a .deb from the source. (alien wasn't properly unpacking the .rpm)

I just downloaded 1.12.0 using the rpm in OpenSuse. The bug still persists

Thanks for the tip on how to recover the files.

You have to recover the file first.

Afterwards vym 1.12.0 (built from source under debian lenny) will save the file without garbleing it again.

Confirmed, notes are not saved by vym, if I create a note with vym and save. When loaded the file has no notes.

I have struck this bug on Intrepid with vym 1.10.0. Can we request a backport of 1.12.0?

Having had problems with Vym and the notes attachments I came across this bug report. When hovering over any of the post in this bug I get a popup saying that Nathan Handler has uploaded version 1.12.x to universe on 11/17/08. After refreshing my Intrepid repositories and looking at universe I only see version 1.10.x.

As a note on the error itself I followed the instruction posted earlier on removing a specific line to restore the ability to load the map file. The specific line menitoned was in 7 locations in the map I was trying to load. I suspect that each branch or sub-branch that has a note attached contain this line.

I too would like to voice my desire for a backport to intrepid.

I am using 8.04. Can the Ubuntu team include the latest version of vym in repo for 8.04? We use VYM internally on more than a couple of desktops in our organisation and I want to keep the laptops 'clean' and don't want to install anything thats not a '.deb' file. Ideally we don't install anything not in standard Ubuntu repos but sometimes we have to and even then only '.deb' stuff.

We don't want to upgrade to 8.10 as 8.04 has LTS.
How do I help in getting this to the attention of the team looking after 8.04

Alternatively how do I go back a version of vym using Synaptic?

Ok so :
I'm not using this software anymore (and not any mindmapping since a long time) i have installed the latest version availlable in my distrib 'Version 2.2.0 - 2012-06-14' and tryied to reproduce the bug.

Good news for you in the xml file the doctype has changed to "<!DOCTYPE vymmap>" and this is good and didn't make the software crash.

Thank to the dev who fixed this ;-)
