Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

When waiting for a response from a friend, if I focus on another window like a browser, the chat window is hidden.
If the friend responds, the pidgin chat window stays hidden. With tabbed browsing, even if a new friend initiates
a chat, the window stays hidden behind the browser unless I happen to notice it. I use KDE and generally auto-hide
the taskbar. So I never get notified about new messages or conversations. Is there a config option that causes pidgin
to raise the window and require me to positively ack each new message by clicking on the window before the window
disappears into background ?

I am running Ubuntu 7.10. pidgin-1.2.2.1-ubuntu4.1

Hmm, I have this problem on my PC at work and unfortunately have a lot of internal software that I must also
upgrade. Will try to find a different box that I can play with, but may take me a while.

Do I need a full upgrade or can I just upgrade pidgin, libpurple etc ?

I have this problem in Ubuntu 8.04, and now also in 8.10 after an upgrade. I've tried libnotify, guifications, and the message notification plugin but nothing makes pidgin will raise my chat windows when a new message arrives. I'm running Ubuntu in a VMWare virtual machine, but everything else is working fine.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Could you try to reproduce the same with Ubuntu 8.10 or 9.04? Thanks in advance.

I still have the problem in Ubuntu 8.10 with pidgin package version 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1. I haven't tried Ubuntu 9.04.

Sebastien, the problem exists in Karmic.

1) Chat window with two or more conversations open
2) If you get a new message on hidden chat window the focus doesn't shift

Its a accessibility problem with blind users.
