I followed these steps, on a fresh install of ubuntu in virutalbox:

- updated ubuntu 8.04 desktop to the absolute latest available.
- added deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/christer.edwards/ubuntu hardy main to the bottom of my sources.list
- sudo apt-get update
- sudo apt-get install origami
- sudo origami install -u myname -t 24

it said everything installed fine, however when I run origami status I get:

$ sudo origami monitor
#########################################
current status of origami on mydesktop
#########################################
Status of FAH client(s): OK

Completed WU on CPU #1:
Your Team: 24
Your Username: myname

cat: /var/lib/origami/foldingathome/CPU*/unitinfo.txt: No such file or directory
ERROR: UNABLE TO GET LOCAL PROGRESS!

any reason for the error message?

This should simply be a matter of the Folding @ Home client not yet receiving a work unit. If you try again now (generally give it ~5min) it should have something.

I have noticed it before on my machines but I've known to just give it some time. I'll try to handle the error a little bit better in a future release.

I've let a sufficient amount of time pass (15 ~ 20 minutes) but it hasn't received any data yet. Should I try uninstalling? What are your recommendations?

Is this still a problem or was it simply a matter of letting enough time pass?

I will look into submitting a patch that will more gracefully report that there is not yet data to report :)

i just installed and have the same issue. I am on a slow connection, so maybe its still downloading the work-unit. Will report back once I have waited for a day or so :-)

this issue has been fixed in 0.7.1 which is available as a bzr checkout or upstream .tar.gz. It should also be available by way of PPA.

Please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/FoldingAtHome/origami for instructions on using one of those methods for installation. This was not fixed in time to package in karmic, but I will look into getting it backported.
