Bug Description

After I resume for suspend, the screen goes black, and the fan and hard drive stop making noise. Caps Lock will not work. There was no crash report, but there were some log files.

I think my wireless card has something to do with it.

I followed the instructions on the page you provided. I upgraded my bios to the latest version. That didn't help. I couldn't disable ACPI without disabling suspend too. I attached the requested files. In addition I followed the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend and included dmesg.txt

Can you please provide a tarball of /proc/acpi:
- cp -r /proc/acpi /tmp
- tar -cvjf ~/acpi.tar.bz /tmp/acpi

And then suspend, and attach the following file:
/var/log/kern.log.0

Thanks

What happens when you add the text 'blacklist hostap_cs' at the end of the file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist ? Please do so, reboot your computer and try to suspend afterwards. Please tell if it works.
You'll probably have network problems after you've added the line to the file, but this can be solved by removing the line you added to the blacklist file and reboot again.

I did what you suggested. Unfortunately, it didn't work. I had network problems like you said. I went into suspend, and resumed. Same outcome. I checked my log files. Instead of hostap_cs causing the error, another module just took its place.

FATAL: Module orinoco_cs is in use.

Should I blacklist that too? what problems would that cause? Would another module then cause the problem? Am I asking too many questions?

I attached pm-suspend.log for this scenario

Thank you for all your help.

Yes, please look if blacklisting this module solves the problem. If more modules show up in the error log, please also try to blacklist them and write their names down.

I blacklisted orinoco_cs and hostap_cs. That removed the Fatal error messages in the suspend log. However it appears that wasn't the problem. Resume still didn't work.

The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test:

1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux-image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test.

--or--

2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD.

Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback.

The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 Beta release was most recently announced - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/intrepid/beta . It contains the 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. It would be great if you could test and verify if this is still an issue. The status is being set to Incomplete until we receive further feedback. Thanks.
