Bug Description

Binary package hint: ntfs-3g

Hi!

You should maybe update the NTFS-3G driver on Buntu versions still supported to at least 1.2506. Versions prior to it could be considered dangerous. Here is the release history on this version:

STABLE Version 1.2506 (May 6, 2008) :
Fix: In certain, rare circumstances, any area of the NTFS volume, except the NTFS boot sector, could get corrupted. The chance for this to happen is higher for close to full disk utilization and using one of the more uncommon, less than 4096 byte cluster sizes. The cluster size is logged under the /var/logs directory usually in the 'messages' or 'daemon.log' log file, as the blksize mount parameter. All stable releases have this issue since version 1.328. Upgrade is strongly recommended from all NTFS-3G releases.

Ok, it says rare, but I'm scared :)

Upgraded the package to version 1.2531. I have not tested it live yet as I have no ntfs discs but it compiles and installes nice.

I don't much care about the optimizations on the newer versions. And I agree that something that works should not be updated or replaced in a release version. But apparently we NTFSers are all in danger currently and this needs to be addressed in great haste. And I know I'm literally going to cry if my NTFS partitions get f*ed up, roll in my river of tears until my body turns into stone as the very life escapes from my veins simultaneously with my huge library of legal downloads...
