Bug Description

After adding my USB connected Epson Stylus Photo
R1800, then all applications use it as the default printer regardless of
the stetting in System>Administration>Printing. Without this printer
installed, everything behaves correctly. My other printers are:

Laser_MFP_1815 (Default)
PDF
magicolor_2430DL

lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.04
Release: 8.04

Did you use system-config-printer to configure the additional printer? Please attach the output of the printingbug info script as described here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrintingBugInfoScript.

I did use system-config-printer to set up my default although the Epson was added automagically when switched on. Attached is the output from printing bug info:

Probably some problem between CUPS user default printer and system-wide default printer.
Can you attach both your /etc/cups/lpoptions (system-wide) and ~/.cups/lpoptions (user)

The system wide file /etc/cups/lpoptions does not exist on my system? I notice that the file /etc/cups/printers.conf (attached) defines the default printer correctly. The file ~/.cups/lpoptions (also attached) defines the incorrect printer to be default. Removing this last file corrects the problem - thanks. My question is what created the ~/.cups/lpoptions file?

The file ~/.cups/lpoptions hasn't been attached to this bug report, please attach it again.

Since your Epson printer was added automatically I think this could be a problem with hal-cups-utils.

Pascal, hal-cups-utils does nothing with the default version, at least the current version.

David, your lpoptions file marks the Epson as default. Either delete your lpoptions file or configure the default printer with System/Preferences/Default Printer in your desktop menus.
