anagramarama crashes on launch

Using hardy heron (8.04) recently installed on Toshiba Satellite laptop. This game worked before on same laptop with gutsy gibbon. After installing anagramarama on 8.04, (using Applications / Add/Remove ) it ran once, but after some other installs and a reboot, now the game won't launch, there is a brief flash on the screen, then nothing. I removed the game, then reinstalled it, and still have the same problem.

Another game "SDLjump" that uses SDL (whatever that is) also won't run correctly on this 8.04 laptop. In the case of SDLjump the program cannot be terminated in a normal way, and required the use of system monitor and the escape key to quit. Perhaps there is a problem with SDL.
